Salentein Numina Cabernet Franc, Uco Valley Red Wine

CABERNET FRANC

The grapes are sourced from two El Oasis vineyard plots, planted in 2000. Cold macerated for six days; fermentation was carried out in oak casks for twelve days and macerated for ten more days. The wine was then racked into oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation and ageing. The nose displays a very good varietal expression with aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry with spiced notes such as clove and black pepper. In the mouth; it is unctuous with a gentle attack, with sweet and round tannins, a balanced, yet good acidity and a lingering finish. Tim Atkin awarded the 2012 vintage 94 points in his Argentina Report in 2015 and the 2011 vintage won the Best Cabernet Franc Trophy at the 2014 Argentina Wine Awards.

Régis Rossignol’s first harvest was 1950 and he completed his 62nd in 2011 on their 7 hectare estate. Régis’ winemaking philosophy is very much to craft ‘vins de terroir’, and as such he has retained most of the traditions handed down to him by his father. Having said this, he is also keen that his wines excel, so he does modify those practices where he sees room for improvement. Spicy black fruit on the nose – purple plums with a touch of black pepper and nutty oak. Rush of beautiful fruit on the palate, just a hint of freesia perfume. This is structured yet juicy, complex yet charming, with tantalising minerality and fantastic sustain on the finish. Awesomely good wine!

Les Ruchets (the beehives) is a precipitous granitic vineyard located above the centre of the village of Cornas, planted with Syrah vines that are up to 90-years-old. Surrounded by juniper bushes and oak trees, the vineyard benefits from an eastern aspect and is warmed by the early morning sun. The wine is gently matured in French oak for two years. Supple, it offers a bouquet of black cherry and blackcurrant with notes of spice and roasted nuts; backed by a rich, chunky finish.

Lynch Bages’s vineyards are superbly sited on a plateau west of Pauillac town, in the small village of Bages. The 90 hectares of vineyards lie on deep gravel beds over limestone.

The El Esteco Estate Vineyards are situated in the Calchaqui Valleys which are more than 1,800 metres above sea level. Nestled at the heart of this region, seemingly unsuitable for grape growing, is an isolated stretch of desert with unique features that make it ideal to grow the highest vineyards in the world. Poor alluvial soils, high sun exposure, low humidity and broad thermal amplitude make the desert valley an excellent wine region. Aromas of blackberries, raisins, coffee with violet notes. Mature, concentrated, vibrant notes combined with firm and sweet tannins allows a long persistence on the palate.
